Dave Woodward grew up in Carmel, California and was interested in business and real estate from an early age. “I always had jobs growing up and often started my own small businesses” recalls Woodward. Dave went to college at U.C. Berkeley and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a double emphasis in finance and real estate. Dave started working in real estate immediately after college and has been in real estate ever since.

Dave has always worked for larger real estate companies. (In addition to his role at Birch Street, Dave is currently the CEO of a 20,000 unit nation-wide apartment company called The Laramar Group and was recently named “Multifamily Executive of the Year” by Multifamily Executive magazine, the apartment industry’s primary trade publication.) However, he always loved driving around locally and checking out up and coming and revitalizing neighborhoods. He would criss-cross every street looking for interesting neighborhoods and to see how areas were changing over time. In fact, it was while doing this in Denver in 2002 that Dave got connected to his future Birch Street Group partners. Dave was planning on investing in some small apartment buildings in Denver when a friend told him that he had to meet Mitch and Chris who were already doing some small real estate “fix and flip” projects. “The three of us hit it off immediately and Birch Street Group took off from there” says Dave.

Dave’s background and training in real estate emphasized finance and operations. However, one of the reasons that Dave is so passionate about real estate is his love of architecture, design, style and the details. This passion about the more “artistic” side of real estate meshed great with both Chris and Mitch and is part of what makes Birch Street Group known for their quality projects and attention to detail today.

“Birch Street Group is a very exciting venture. We have carved out a niche for ourselves as ‘the infill guys’ and have built a strong organization and brand” says Dave. “We will be doing great infill projects together for many years to come!”

Chris Cardiff grew up on the east coast in a family entrenched in real estate investment. "I thought it was normal to spend your weekends fixing up 200 year old colonials” recalls Cardiff. Chris moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1992 to attend the University of Colorado. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, and immediately jumped headfirst into the Internet frenzy of the late 90’s. On the side, he still bought and sold "fix and flip" properties, where he and his wife Lisa worked on evenings and weekends. He started to realize the Internet bubble burst was imminent, and real estate was where he should shift his energies. He went back to Colorado State University in order to better understand the intricacies of construction methodology, and earned an Advanced Construction Management Degree, in an accelerated program.

Chris has a passion for real estate. He reads real estate journals, attends design shows all over the world, and actively brainstorms with friends, family and colleagues, looking for the next great design trends. On a weekly basis, Chris will drive and walk countless Denver neighborhoods, in order to better understand what is for sale, how it compares to Birch Street’s product, and to gain a greater sense of the neighborhoods feel and architecture. He prides himself is his ability to create new trends in the "urban infill" niche. "I know I’m on the right track, when I see other builders copying our ideas" says Chris.

Chris’ wife Lisa is a big part of their success, and also has great passion for Birch Street’s product. Lisa also serves as Birch Street’s in-house legal counsel. Chris and Lisa have two children, Madeline and Colby, and are very involved in Cory Merrill, which is not only the neighborhood they live, but is also where Birch Street built its first infill new construction project.

Mitch Linder, Managing Partner

Managing Partner - Operations and Birch Street Realty

Mitch Linder grew up in Nebraska and is a graduate of the University of Nebraska where he majored in Marketing. Mitch pursued a career in Information Technology rising to the level of Vice President of a large, publicly traded, company in the telecom field. Although focused on his IT career, Mitch was always interested in real estate. “My weekdays were focused on building systems, processes and company structure and my weekends were focused on looking at real estate investment opportunities.”

When an opportunity came along to take a severance package at his corporate job, Mitch jumped at the chance and jumped right into real estate. “I had known Chris for a while and then I met Dave and everything started to take off from there and I never looked back.” Mitch always had an interest in real estate and now it has become his passion and he is always looking at new opportunities for Birch Street to pursue.

Mitch coordinates the operations of Birch Street as well as providing direction to Birch Street Realty, Birch Street’s wholly-owned real estate brokerage business. Mitch also coordinates the company’s charity activities which are a very important part of Birch Street’s company culture. The skills that Mitch perfected over the years in the corporate world have been put to excellent use building the systems and programs that run all of the day to day functions at Birch Street.

Mitch’s wife, Lori, lends her talents to the company as a designer, in addition to raising their two children, Riley and Dawson. Mitch is a very involved dad, coaching Riley’s basketball team and avidly supporting Dawson’s soccer team. “Everything has worked out so well. We’ve built a great company and developed a brand name in our infill neighborhoods. Not only have we developed a strong following but our reputation for quality work and a quality company is one of the things I’m most proud of.”
